Application performance is a topic that concerns every developer at one time or another as it is arguably the second most important measurement of any software system's success directly behind correctness. When attempting to improve the performance of an application, the first and often most difficult task is to identify the elements that are most responsible for the delays in time. This paper profiles how a real-world, poorly performing software testing system was analyzed using SAS and the performance gains that were achieved by rewriting data queries, by restructuring code blocks and removing unnecessary code, and by altering SAS configuration options.
