Overview:
Barry Cardoza, vice president of business continuity, contingency and disaster planning at San Francisco-based Union Bank and a national voice in bank Business Continuity Planning (BCP), is worried. Off late, federally regulated banks must comply with BCP guidelines issued in 2008 by the US Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC). Under these 'Extremely comprehensive and auditable' standards, a compliant bank is 'Very well-prepared' for any crisis. When Union Bank conducted a gap analysis against these guidelines, it had to check 600 items, compared to only 100 items under the now-superseded 2003 guidelines.
