Overview:

Caja de Compensacion (Compensar) is a health services provider in Colombia. Along with Cenet, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, Compensar created MiPlanilla.com, a government-authorized Web site providing social security payment and management services. With a 150 percent increase in MiPlanilla.com users in 2008, the site required more server capacity and a better redundancy scheme to ensure high availability. Compensar addressed both issues with virtualization, using Windows Server 2008 Datacenter with Hyper-V and System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008. It not only avoided purchasing new servers, saving U.S. $75,000, but also consolidated existing servers by 66 percent, simplified management, and improved continuity. Compensar also virtualized mission-critical workloads, including SQL Server databases, which help the site handle 30 percent more concurrent transactions.
