Overview:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently granted certification for the eXaminer 3DX 6000, a new Explosive Detection System (EDS) designed to scan checked baggage at airports for explosives. Exceeding the FAA's stringent requirements for identification of difficult-to-detect plastic explosives in passenger baggage, the eXaminer is also lighter weight and has a smaller footprint than earlier CT-based explosive detection systems. A customized VersaLogic STD 32 Bus CPU card is used in the detection and display portion of the system. A second VersaLogic processor board combined with a high-speed analog and digital I/O card controls the high-speed rotating disk and plays an important role in communications for the 6000 channels of data transmission.
