Overview:

Most businesses and organizations cannot survive without the applications and services their IT infrastructure delivers. Reliance on web-based information systems continues to increase. A majority of organizations are using web applications to support their employees; communicate with customers, prospects and partners; and generate revenues. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is now a business-critical application within this complex IT environment. Aberdeen Group surveyed 206 organizations to examine best practices for monitoring and managing application performance. This paper draws on Aberdeen's research and that of others to show the business context for managing GIS application performance.
