Overview:
The IEEE 802.16/WiMAX standard is one of the most promising technologies for Broadband Wireless Access Network, providing high data rate and large coverage both in fixed and mobile scenarios. This paper focuses on a new architectural solution to integrate a WiMAX based access segment into an end to end, QoS enable, multi-domain architecture. The proposed solution is compliant with the WiMAX Forum architecture, but improves the existing features and introduces additional functionalities through the coordination between the IEEE 802.16 QoS framework and the flexible end-to-end signalling mechanisms that allows the architecture to guarantee a coherent QoS along the full path for a large set of applications with different requirements and signalling capabilities.
