During his 30-year career at Exxon Mobil, Bill Dixon designed and built oil drilling rigs all over the world. When Dixon retired from Exxon, the company hired him back as a consultant on a huge project in the Caspian Sea. This was a very difficult drilling rig project and they hired Bill back to work with Exxon's other partners to develop specifications for the job, Bill remembers. Knowing that a picture is worth a thousand words, Bill decided that a visual communications plan was in order. Bill used SmartDraw in the early phases for the specification work. SmartDraw flow charts made all of the moving parts easy to understand for the group.
