Overview:

The Ethernet and IP storage ecosystems have utilized 10 GbE technology to completely remove performance as a barrier for enterprise-level adoption of an IP-based network storage strategy centered on iSCSI and NAS. These developments also greatly enhance the viability of Ethernet as a unified switching fabric for data centers of all sizes. A unified switching fabric leverages Ethernet's TCO advantages, including massive economies of scale, widespread administrative expertise and familiar management tools. In addition, interconnecting all data center resources over a unified fabric greatly simplifies the deployment and management of virtualization as a means of maximizing the cost-effectiveness of data center resources.
