Overview:

To take advantage of the higher processing power and new architecture of the Intel Itanium processor, application binaries are recompiled for HP-UX on HP Integrity servers. HP-UX source code compatibility between PA-RISC and Itanium has enabled a simple and safe transition procedure. SAP applications and the backend database, are clearly mission-performance critical. Both have therefore been re-compiled to take advantage of Itanium's Explicitly Parallel Instruction Computing (EPIC) technology developed by HP. Binary compatibility between HP-UX on PA-RISC and HP-UX on Itanium servers is unique to HP and gives the customer peace of mind that the transition to Integrity will be smooth. Based on this binary compatibility, data files used on the PA-RISC system can also be used on the Itanium-based Integrity machine.
