Overview:

In current literature, several solutions have been proposed to support mobility in the future wireless-based networks. Although Mobile MPLS supports mobility, it is only suited to macro-mobility, and it fails to support micro-mobility efficiently. A number of micro-mobility protocols are designed for the management of intra-domain mobility. This paper proposes the Micro Mobile MPLS protocol that is a practical approach integrating Mobile IP and MPLS protocols to support micro-mobility. A new NS-2 simulation model of Micro Mobile MPLS and MPLS Hierarchical node architecture are also presented. Simulation results show that Micro Mobile MPLS is more efficient, in terms of packet loss and handoff delay, than the other most prominent micro-mobility protocols.
