Overview:

One of the federal government's largest and most complex agencies wanted to improve the capabilities of its Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems and meet the requirements of Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12). HSPD-12 is a presidential mandate setting common standards for identification card and identity systems for all federal employees and contractors. The agency held a technology competition, asking three companies to implement a prototype IAM system for the department. As a result of the success of BearingPoint's prototype, the agency selected BearingPoint to perform an IAM pilot and full-capability implementation for more than 100,000 employees and contractors.
