Overview:
Engineering Enterprises will all have some form of product lifecycle that must be managed. The first step in this cycle is the product design effort that culminates in a product release. This is where the product design is released to those departments whose efforts begin that lifecycle such as manufacturing, purchasing, quality assurance, etc. In the majority of firms, the collaboration between these multiple departments will take place in iterative loops of the design process culminating in the final product release. There are a variety of methodologies used by organizations to ensure that all design, review and approval participants stay 'On the same page'.
