Overview:

In government, being environmentally conscious has moved from being a "Good" thing to do to having policymaker imperative behind pursuing green technologies. The U.S. Conference of Mayors reports that now more than 850 mayors have signed onto the organization's Climate Protection Agreement, a document committing them to various energy efficient measures outlined in the international pact, the Kyoto Protocol. Growing numbers of U.S. governments are implementing policies and technologies to reduce their carbon footprint while balancing pressures to drive operational efficiencies. Rising energy costs is playing a role in data center modernization initiatives and equipment replacement plans. More government agencies are promoting ecologically friendly work force policies - from telecommuting to flexible work schedules.
