Overview:

This paper presents a prototype wireless sensor network middleware REED (Rule Execution and Event Distribution). This middleware supports both the distribution of rules and the events that trigger them. REED employs a rule-based paradigm to allow sensor networks to be programmed at run time. This provides a flexible environment where applications and users can programme the sensor nodes to allow their behaviour to be changed at run time. Such a rule-based approach allows a number of services such as Subscribe-Notify to be constructed. A prototype system for PROSEN-WSN has been implemented which demonstrates the REED middleware. The main contribution of this paper is the ability to programme a rule-based WSN at run time.
