Overview:
This paper talks about server consolidation, which describes a variety of ways of reducing capital and operating expenses associated with running servers. Gartner research divides consolidation projects into three categories: logical consolidation means implementing common processes and management across a range of server applications; physical consolidation means collocating servers in fewer locations; and rationalized consolidation means implementing multiple applications on fewer, more powerful platforms.
