Overview:
The long time promise that the new, digital, multimedia-based networks will expand the availability and reach of video to virtually everyone has reached the point of fulfillment. Network users are now intently pursuing applications that have been previously undeliverable, including both live and archived video. Video serving on the Internet, or World Wide Web, whether for broadcast programming or for business and personal use, can now be successfully implemented. In fact, support for video networking is expected to force the Internet to move beyond the networking paradigms of today. This transformation into a widely deployed, video based, medium will be enabled by the evolution to a comprehensive, scalable video server architecture. This new architecture will be based on sophisticated video management systems as well as the high quality streaming of video signals.
