Overview:

This session shows how you can evolve your existing Web components towards Portlets, Web components like servlets, but with additional special properties that allow you to easily plug into and run in enclosing Web applications like portal. We describe the Sun ONE Portal Server software architecture, APIs, and programming concepts that you can use to develop your first Portlets. We focus on how you can take your existing JSPs and XML files and create Portlets from them using the JavaServer Pages (JSP) technology Providers and XML Providers. We also cover where JSR 162 and JSR 168, Portlet APIs, and Specification are today. We implement a real Portlet using the Portlet Builder and a Sun ONE Studio plugin that allows you to create and test your Portlets. Finally, we show how to deploy this Portlet to our Sun ONE Portal Server 6.0 and make this Portlet available for the Portal's users.
