Overview:

A large part of Yorkshire Water's revenue is processed by the billing system. This was an Intel-based dual-node Trimetra Nova built using a 28-year-old COBOL code system. It produced annual bills for 1.5 million unmetered properties and billing throughout the year for 700,000 with meters, and was integrated with 13 other applications. The team wanted to be innovative in its approach to customer service by offering options such as online bill payment and so in 2001, Yorkshire Water decided to re-engineer all its customer-facing billing systems. This project consisted of five phases. The team at Yorkshire Water chose to work with full-time architects from Microsoft and Yorkshire Water offshore delivery partner Xansa.
