Overview:

The Forestry Commission is responsible for managing the United Kingdom's one million hectares of forests and woodlands and increasing their value to society and the environment. A survey of the commission's staff in 2000 revealed that clearer, more focused communications were needed to ensure timely access to information and to enable posting of documents on the Web site quickly and efficiently. Converting documents from their native format to Hypertext Markup Language for publishing on the intranet was an onerous and time-consuming task. In 2001, the commission launched e-Connect, its new intranet site, and implemented the portal functionality of Oracle Application Server and Oracle interMedia to accelerate the process of publishing, uploading, and searching for information.
