Overview:

Swiss media giant Ringier wanted to transform its work environment to heighten journalist productivity to gain an edge in a competitive industry. The 7,000-employee company envisioned an "Integrated newsroom" in which its journalists around the world had technology tools to support collaboration and advanced communications. With help from partners Peaches Industries and Swisscom, Ringier established a new "Collaborative workplace" based on Microsoft technologies, including Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. Ringier expects that its new environment will increase productivity by 20 percent for its Swiss employees and decrease travel and meeting costs by 10 percent. It also anticipates that journalists will be able to develop stories more quickly and with greater depth for a competitive advantage.
