Overview:
This paper discusses the capability of booting servers directly from OS images located on the SAN through a Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (HBA) or a Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) Converged Network Adapter (CNA). It describes the Emulex "Boot from SAN" implementation, and how it delivers a markedly enhanced level of manageability and availability, even in heterogeneous computing environments with distinct hardware and operating system requirements.
