Overview:
As spam attacks become more frequent and increasingly more sophisticated and varied, a new spam identification and filtering technique that is highly adaptable to the specific nature of the organizations can be found based on the Bayesian probability theory. Also, many spam behaviors require multi-tier anti-spam functions working together in analyzing the SMTP, email contents, and in conducting the scan from Real-time Spam Black Lists (RBL) to block malicious email. This paper describes the SMTP analysis, the heuristics analysis, and the multi-tier anti-spam techniques that an email security gateway could deploy effectively in blocking spam and virus.
