Overview:
Virtualization projects currently pay lip-service to the underlying connectivity infrastructure. The current trend is to transition from costly and limited-function "Fibre Channel" and "Leased Line" communication links to more powerful 1Gig or 10Gig Ethernet switched network connections. Whilst Exponential-e can offer the powerful connectivity provided by GigE connections, this is merely the substitution of existing network capacity based on legacy technologies over to Ethernet, which, whilst undoubtedly, has better cost metrics. This paper goes much further by illustrating how an Ethernet-based Next Generation platform will make available to the virtualization manager, an array of features not on offer within a legacy environment.
