Overview:
Upon its inception, Overstock.com made the decision to build its Web-based business on open source software - mainly SUSE Linux, now distributed by Novell. However, the company soon found that the Windows platform offered significant benefits over Linux for many new business solutions. Although the company still runs its Web site on Linux, Overstock.com has increasingly turned to Microsoft software for the applications that support its mission-critical fulfillment processes, data warehouse environment, and online marketing efforts.
