Overview:

Identifying, applying, and documenting patterns are ubiquitous activities for application architects. Patterns cover many complex areas, from large-scale structure of the application architecture to specific design problem solutions. To be successful in the design, one must be aware of and be able to apply existing patterns. In this paper, one finds out how to identify recurring patterns in the designs and to document their characteristics, advantages, and trade-offs. Going from requirements to an effective application architecture inherently requires the use of patterns. Modeling is the documentation of patterns of state and behavior within the application domain. Design issues require insight into these pattens to resolve. Over time, the patterns of the domain become a language in which to communicate about design trade-offs.
