Overview:

For all the incentives to enterprise consolidation, there are also some powerful lines of resistance to overcome. Because many organizations don't have a centralized IT budget, Logicalis Senior Infrastructure Consultant observes, individual departments are often less than enthusiastic about surrendering hardware they have purchased with their own money to the greater good of a consolidated IT infrastructure. Managing the politics of ownership, as a result, can often be the key to a successful consolidation project. The distributed world was often built on ownership of the asset by the business unit with the IT department relegated to operations. That will change with consolidation and particularly with virtualization.
