This paper reviews the differences between Microsoft Systems Management Server and WinReporter combined with RemoteExec. Implementing WinReporter and RemoteExec is very straightforward and rapid. Both applications need only be installed on a workstation to be ready and fully operational. Their intuitiveness and ease of use enable immediate use of all functionalities without necessitating any prior training. WinReporter and RemoteExec can be used at will and do not necessitate any daily administration or monitoring. The SMS asynchronous operating mode generates latency which in turn forces modifications in decision and management habits that are usually based on instant results. An environment managed by SMS necessitates rigorous action planning.
