Overview:

Created by the merger of two major pharmaceutical firms, Astellas Pharma is committed to keeping operations up and running and medications available even if its data center goes down. To accomplish this goal the company built a disaster recovery site using host-based replication with Veritas Storage Foundation and Veritas Volume Replicator. Astellas also needed to curb rising storage costs as its quantity of data rapidly grew. The solution was hierarchical data management, with archiving for less-frequently-accessed data, using Symantec Enterprise Vault. This solution allows the company to introduce storage disks at an 80 % cost reduction and better manage data by minimizing the mounting cost of storage.
