Overview:
Financial institutions are increasingly centralising their systems and processes, requiring large volumes of data to be transferred from remote branches to major data centres. This placed new demands on the infrastructure of service provider iT-AUSTRIA, which delivers data centre services as well as voice and data services to high-profile financial services companies. With an SDH network in place for voice traffic and a separate ATM network for data, iT-AUSTRIA decided to deploy a new Metro Ethernet network based on Nortel's Optical Multiservice Edge 6500. Completed at the end of 2006, the network has points of presence in each of Austria's regional capitals and connects data centres in Italy, Germany and Austria.
