Overview:
System Administrators faced with managing online storage have many choices to make about how the storage should be configured for optimal performance, availability and flexibility. By using an online management tool such as VERITAS Volume Manager for Windows, they can equip themselves with an arsenal of features to create and manage high-performance storage environments for their users. However, having the tools and knowing how best to use them can be very different. This paper identifies some key areas to watch and recommends optimal configuration at the basic level, beginning with RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) concepts and working through disk groups and other online volume-management concepts.
