Overview:

Consolidating disaster recovery servers on virtual machines such as VMware and Virtual Servers can reduce your hardware costs and significantly lessen your management burden.

Learn how in this TechRepublic Webcast, when David Aschmann, Product Manager for CA XOsoft, explains how these two technologies can be combined to produce a robust and cost-effective DR solution for mission-critical applications and data.

Aschmann explores the use of virtual machines in three distinct DR scenarios:

  • Use case 1: Two production servers -- one running Microsoft SQL Server and one running Oracle -- are replicated to two virtual servers running on a single physical server at the DR site.
  • Use case 2: With Microsoft Exchange running on a two-server cluster and a stand-alone file server, the DR site uses two physical servers to replicate the two cluster nodes, with the DR file server consolidated on one of them.
  • Use case 3: A production site that has 14 physical servers running 11 applications (including three that are clustered for high availability) is consolidated by properly distributing the applications across just three physical DR servers.
Hosted by James Hilliard, Moderator for TechRepublic, this on-demand Webcast highlights the potential savings that you can realize when virtual machines are deployed for disaster planning and recovery purposes.
