Overview:

Located in the canton of Zurich, Winterthur is the sixth largest city in Switzerland. The city's administrative staff provides information technology services to more than 3,500 users. The City of Winterthur (IDW) wanted to streamline and improve backup services to accommodate 30% annual data growth and ensure 100% data protection. The challenge was to maintain existing backup processes while reducing administrative costs. In response to an IDW request for proposals, Network Appliance reseller Diwega responded with a solution that included a NetApp NearStore Virtual Tape Library (VTL) disk-based backup system and a new tape library with LTO-3 technology.
