Overview:

Some Windows system administrators loved the old Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) metabase, but it was hated by most because it was difficult to read and provided no mechanism for delegating to non-adminstrators. Enter IIS 7.0, which was built on the successful and highly popular .config infrastructure ASP.NET used to build the next-generation Web server configuration. The major items introduced to this XML configuration were the System.WebServer and the System.ApplicationHost namespaces designed to give administrators and developers a multitude of access points to configuration. IIS 7.0 also enables Windows system administrators to delegate sections of the configuration to non-administrators, easing the burden of management on themselves.

This chapter download from How to Cheat at IIS 7 Server Administration introduces ApplicationHost.config and explains enabling Delegated Administration in IIS 7.0. Explore how much easier Web farm synchronization is with IIS 7.0's distributed configuration capabilties.
