Overview:
This paper discusses the core technologies that are used to build and secure Fibre Channel based Storage Area Networks. Fibre Channel is a flexible standards based networking architecture that can be used as a transport mechanism for a number of Upper Level Protocols. The most common Upper Level Protocols are SCSI and TCP/IP. In this paper, the term Storage Area Network (SAN) is used to describe a Fibre Channel network over which SCSI-FCP (SCSI over Fibre Channel) Protocols run.
