Overview:

The Exploration & Production (E&P) business of leading global oil, gas and petrochemical group Royal Dutch Shell is engaged in acquiring, exploring, developing and producing oil and gas from natural reserves. Shell has continually developed and refined its own dynamic reservoir engineering modelling software, Dynamo, to produce increasingly accurate models. The software is so sophisticated that it can simulate oil and gas production for periods of up to 30 years. However, as Dynamo improves, the volume of data it analyses multiplies, requiring an increasingly powerful hardware platform. E&P technicians tested the performance of Dynamo with Red Hat Linux on servers powered by Dual-Core Intel Itanium 2 processors 9000 series.
