Overview:

Founded in 1917, the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, or PUCP) is one of the most prestigious private universities in the country. As a university at the vanguard of artistic and intellectual thought, PUCP always strives to project an image of sophistication and modernization. However, by 2003, the university's outdated phone system was preventing it from fully achieving that ideal. Because of the large number of proprietary PBX systems, transferring between facilities required a staff of operators. In addition, the existing PBX systems had reached capacity at several campus buildings. The company decided to replace the existing PBX phone system with an IP-based communications solution which was Cisco IP Communications technology.
