Overview:

Power and cooling are surfacing as major concerns in companies of all sizes. Rising energy prices and drastic increases in the density and power requirements of server and storage solutions over the past few years have driven IT managers to consider strategies for reducing power consumption in the data center. In this paper, the authors present an alternative and arguably better method of comparison - a solution-based approach for the analysis of overall power consumption. Real-world configurations will be presented with a focus on how Cisco MDS 9000 directors can be used to implement storage networking solutions that reduce overall power consumption in the data center.
