Overview:
In these days' competitive media markets, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) faces rising competition and substantial capital requirements. In a bold move to reduce capital and operational costs and position itself for the move to digital TV, PBS recently launched the ACE project, an overhaul of its operations and distribution systems. PBS is replacing expensive broadcast equipment with IT building blocks based on the Microsoft .NET Framework, Microsoft Windows Server System, Intel Xeon processor - based servers, and Intel Pentium 4 processor - based workstations. ACE is projected to save PBS up to U.S.$100 million annually in operational costs, simplify local programming operations, and enable further investment in high-quality, compelling, and culturally relevant programming.
