Overview:

A successful capacity management strategy requires having the resources in place to deliver just-in-time support of the business requirements. Integral to that process is the development of a capacity plan based on the data from a Capacity Management Database (CDB). According to the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), the CDB is the cornerstone of a successful capacity management process operating as a subset of a Configuration Management DataBase (CMDB). This paper illustrates how the CDB and supporting solutions fulfill ITIL capacity management best practices. It also shows how the CDB supports ITIL capacity management subprocesses, with an emphasis on the Resource capacity management subprocess.
