Overview:

Discover Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), a groundbreaking approach to writing and executing programs that radically enhances a developer's ability to model and support business processes by providing the programming model, engine and tools for quickly building workflow enabled applications. WF programs are assembled out of resumable program statements called activities, which provide encapsulation of both domain-specific logic and control flow patterns reflective of real-world processes. Gain a deeper understanding of how large WF programs execute by examining what happens at the level of a single activity in this sample chapter from Essential Windows Workflow Foundation. Investigate the activity automaton, which describes the lifecycle of any activity in a WF program instance. Then look at composite activities (Sequence, Interleave, and PrioritizedInterleave) that provide insights into the flexibility of WF's model for control flow. Finally, study the WF execution model and threading model, specifically focusing on how WF scheduler works. Windows Workflow Foundation will be released as part of the .NET Framework 3.0 which is part of the Windows Vista release.
