Overview:

This paper shows that the portal administrator has many responsibilities and management tasks relating to maintaining a portal site. Each feature the portal site adds to Windows SharePoint Services results in its own management requirements, for which there are administration tools available through the Web-delivered Site Settings page. First, the management of who can access the portal site, the level of access to the portal site, and whether or not anonymous access is allowed can be controlled. Next, management of alerts gives the administrator the ability to control alert usage and helps users clear out alerts when they get out of hand.
