As personal computers become ever more powerful, complex, and connected, they also become more vulnerable to malicious attack. This sample chapter from Microsoft Windows XP Inside Out Deluxe, Second Edition examines in detail three essential steps that Windows users can take to secure their computers: using a firewall, getting updates, and using antivirus software.
