Overview:

Wired networks, especially the Internet, have already been indispensable in the daily activities. However, in the last 10 years, security "Disasters" have challenged the design and development of networks and systems. Vulnerabilities in current systems are frequently exploited by hackers and attackers. Cyber attacks have become a more and more serious threat to the society. In order to better protect networks, this paper gives an overview on a variety of hacking techniques. The paper focuses on the objectives, principles, functionalities and characteristics of different types of hacking techniques in wired networks, and provides in-depth discussions on the common characteristics of cyber attacks, the structure and components of cyber attacks, and the relationships among cyber attacks.
