Overview:

In 2003, Argos - a major catalogue retailer in the UK and Ireland with over 500 stores and an annual turnover in excess of £3 billion - introduced a trial 'track-and-trace' system for jewelry and other high-value items across its supply chain in the north of England. The system uses a combination of RFID and barcode technologies to identify assets within the Argos supply chain between its distribution centers in the UK counties of Yorkshire and Lancashire, and the retail stores that they serve. The combination of barcode, passive RFID labels (I?CODE) and active RFID tags and security seals within this system provides Argos with real-time tracking and complete product visibility.
