Overview:

A critical part of any system maintenance plan is a sound data backup regimen. Backing up your data on a regular basis, regardless of whether you're a home user or a network administrator, can save you a significant amount of time and heartache when your disk crashes or disaster strikes. Using built-in tools found in UNIX-based operating systems, it is possible to automate the entire process, which not only alleviates tedium, but also increases the reliability of the entire procedure. The tutorial included in this download will guide you through the process of creating a simple UNIX shell script to back up important directories on a regular basis.

What is your data backup regimen? How is the process automated? What advice beyond this download do you have for your peers?
