Overview:

This sample chapter, taken from Cisco Press' Mobile IP Technology and Applications, outlines Cisco IOS Mobile IP configuration commands, examines basic configuration of the Home Agent, FA, and Mobile Node, and provides common troubleshooting techniques.

Cellular wireless networks allow clients to roam from one wireless access point to another. In a large enough network, this could cause a client to enter a different subnet. Normally, this would cause an IP conflict; however, the use of the Mobile IP protocol creates a kind of forwarding address, enabling access points to reroute data across subnets. Mobile IP should not be used other than in especially large continuous wireless networks. This sample chapter, taken from Cisco Press' Mobile IP Technology and Applications, presents a Mobile IP laboratory example as a learning tool and highlights major concepts of Cisco IOS Mobile IP configuration. The authors introduce Cisco IOS configuration commands and examine basic configuration of the Home Agent, FA, and Mobile Node. The chapter also demonstrates common troubleshooting areas on the different Mobile IP entities and shows you how to evaluate the proper functioning of the Mobile IP process.
