Overview:

Serving the City of Tucson and Pima County, Arizona, the Tucson- Pima Public Library is a 22-branch library system with approximately two million books and other items. The library's primary interest in installing an RFID system was to have self-checkout stations which were fast and easy to use. Specifically, they wanted at least 30% self-checkout at branches so staff could spend less time on check-out and more on patron service and other library tasks. At the request of the Town of Oro Valley, the library looked again at self-checkout systems. They liked the idea of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) combining self-checkout and security functions, and ultimately selected Checkpoint's Intelligent Library System (ILS).
