Overview:

Rational Unified Process (RUP) is weak in several areas. In a study performed by the Software Engineering Institute, RUP was assessed against CMMI Continuous Representation. Although RUP performed well in most of the CMMI process areas, it was assessed as weak in the areas of Supplier Agreement Management and Technical Solution Process Areas practices. This paper describes new process elements that allow RUP to overcome these weaknesses; discusses how RUP has been used to assist IT organizations in achieving a higher level of process capabilities; presents the software process improvement approach Unisys is using; and describes new process elements that can be created to overcome the identified weakness related to CMMI assessment.
