Overview:
When it was time for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) to expand its fleet - and hire 17,000 additional crew members - it knew it would need to offer potential crew members benefits that make working for RCCL better than working for any other cruise line. RCCL first installed QNX terminals to connect to the Internet and the crew was enthusiastic about the possibility of Internet access from their cabins. But as time went on, the crew became disappointed with the number of Web sites they could not access because of browser conflicts. Soon, RCCL had to face up to outdated, discontinued hardware. It evaluated several options, including Linux, but decided that a Microsoft Windows-based solution would best fit their needs.
