Overview:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CEDR) needed a solution to enable e-mail communications between itself and various companies it regulates in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. They were looking for a cost-sensitive practical approach that also incorporated the security they needed for their own networks and the sensitive information they exchanged with their regulated companies. Plus they had to protect against virus, spam, and denial of service attacks.
